Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding
Whether you are an expert skier/snowboarder, or you are out for your first time, Whitefish Mountain Resort (Big Mountain) is a world-class Ski Resort, offering a first-class experience. Big Mountain is also a great location for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
Blacktail Mountain Ski Area is on the Southern End of the Flathead Valley and offers a variety of runs at an affordable rate. Check out their websites for the snow report, ticket details, and more information.
Cross-country Skiing
The Flathead Valley has tons of nordic skiing options for all levels of skiers. Visit the Whitefish Golf Course (Glacier Nordic Center), create your own adventure on local trails, or book a guided ski tour. Skis can also be delivered straight to the resort!
Great Northern Powder Guides
Montana’s only backcountry ski/snowboard operation is here in the Flathead Valley, just north of Whitefish! They operate on over 20,000 acres in the beautiful Stillwater State Forest, a short 20 miles north of Whitefish, Montana. All of their trips are fully guided to provide guests with a safe and unforgettable backcountry experience.
Snowmobiling
The area is abundant with groomed snowmobile trails. Bring your own sled, rent one locally, or take a snowmobile tour. There are several outfitters including Whitefish Marine, J&L Snowmobile Rentals, and Swan Mountain Snowmobiling.

Ice Climbing
If you are an avid climber, or a brand new beginner looking to try an awesome new winter sport, check out ice climbing!
If you are an experienced ice climber, you can rent gear from Whitefish Vertical Adventures as well so you don’t have to pack it!
Dog Sledding
Dog sledding is a one of a kind way to explore Montana in winter!
Skijoring

Sledding
Bring your own sleds, or pick one up at Costco or Sportsman Ski Haus! There are several great sledding hills in the area.
Buffalo Hill Golf Course in Kalispell allows Sledding in their off season as long as there is plenty of snow!
Herron Park in Kalispell is also one of our favorites and is great for cross country skiing as well!
Fat Tire Biking
Are you an avid mountain biker, enjoy riding a bike, or simply want to try something new? Fat Tire Biking might be you thing! Fat bikes ride similar to regular bikes, but have large “fat” tires so you can bike on the snow! Check out Glacier Cyclery and Nordic for fat bike rentals.
Brash Winter Rodeo Series
The Brash Winter Rodeo series takes place at the Majestic Arena located just 5 minutes up the road! Enjoy rodeo all winter long!

There are several great places to go ice skating! Stumptown Ice Den is an indoor facility in Whitefish open year round for public skate. Woodland Ice Center is an outdoor facility located in Kalispell and open for public skate seasonally.
